A man who pleaded guilty to illegal possession of ammunition was given a non-custodial sentence when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrates’ court earlier this week.

Attorney-at-law Donald Bryan was successful in his bid for a non custodial sentence for his clients, as his impassioned plea won over the judge.

“Your honour, we are in agreement with the allegations and will add that my client didn’t waste the court’s time by accepting a guilty plea on his first appearance and also that he admitted to the lawmen that he had the ammmunitions before they searched him,” the attorney said.

On October 30, it is alleged that 23 year old Linval McPherson went to relieve himself in the old cenetery and found a bag containing one magazine with 19 nine mm rounds.

On his way home,  he was pounced upon by a joint police and military operations along the railway and before he was searched he admitted to possessing the items. He was subsequently arrested and charged for the above mentioned ammunition.

Resident Magistrate Tara Reid Carr then sentenced McPherson to nine months at hard labour, suspended for two years.
