Heavyweight music producer Justus Arison has a brand new concept on life, and this is evident in his new one-drop project, Newborn, a tribute to his son who came into the world only a few months ago.

“When my son was still in his mother’s womb, I started working on this riddim and it reflects my new outlook on life, i want to be here for him, to see him grow up and to make a difference in the world. This is the most emotion I ever put in a riddim,” Justus Arison.

Released on iTunes on Tuesday of this week, the Newborn riddim is a soulful project where the artistes present songs that can elevate the human soul with conscious social commentary.

Lutan Fyah leads out the riddim with ‘Children of Today’ where he uses his powerful vocals to appeal to the children to understand that “babylon will never give us what we truly deserve”, and that they can use self-confidence, education and self-worth to overcome challenges of poverty, gang warfare and deprivation.

Anthony B delivers a stirring call to arms with ‘No Push Around’ where he stands up to Babylon as a real rasta soldier where he reminisces on successful shows like Sting and his seminal hit, ‘Fire Pon Rome’, showing that he has been in the game for decades and will be around for decades more. Anthony B’s spirited vocals show that he still has the passion and drive to fight for the rights of the poor and disenfranchised.

Garnet Silk Jr. shows why he is one of the fiercest young voices to have emerged in reggae music in the past year with ‘Zion Awaits’ where his soulful delivery and brilliantly conceived lyrics show that he has the superstar genes of his father. The incredibly talented Kim Nain has thousands of fans on social media who love her sultry delivery which she showcases to full effect on ‘Waiting for the One’. The song focussed on the pitfalls and challenges of true love, and the agonising that lovers go through when confronted by doubts and choices.

Blak Ryno shows why he is one of the most talented artistes to have emerged out of the Gaza movement with this song, ‘Wish Your Love Was Here’. He has always been a great writer but recently, under the guidance of Arison, he has shown great maturity and a natural knack for storytelling. He delivers the melodies on point and with the flair that early Ryno fans will love and appreciate.

Newcomer Sahie shows glimpses of brilliances on ‘Born and Grow’
