Social media commentator and philanthropist Claude ‘Big Stone’ Sinclair is remembered by his peers for his humanitarian spirit and acts of kindness.
He died on April 28th.
In his final year, he openly discussed his battle with cancer to raise awareness and encourage men to undergo regular health screenings
The former music producer and artiste manager-turned-YouTuber was known for his community work and advocacy for black consciousness and social justice. He was the brother of late actress Madge Sinclair. He was 68 years old.
He founded Big Stone Records, producing songs for artists like Sizzla and Richie Spice. He was also known as a promoter who organized benefits for Jamaican entertainers like Gully Bop, Yvonne Sterling, and Junior Byles.
Sinclair passed away at the Kingston Public Hospital after a battle with prostate cancer. His wife, Darma, said he had been suffering from the disease and also experienced organ failure.
Sinclair is a Garveyite and was instrumental in the visit to Jamaica of Marcus Garvey’s son, Dr Julius Garvey in 2012. In September 2023, Sinclair sparked controversy when he was released from chains by People’s National Party (PNP) President Mark Golding during a constituency conference
Following his 2023 diagnosis, Sinclair spoke openly about his initial decision to try natural remedies. In later posts and interviews, he revealed that the cancer had spread to multiple areas, including his spine and hip, eventually weakening his bones and severely limiting his mobility.
He had also been recovering from a serious fall in 2024 that required back surgery.
