VSR ready to make major moves in Dancehall

PAUL MCALLISTER

Upcoming indie label Visually Sound Records (VSR) is making major moves locally, concentrating on the area of artiste management to harness and develop the new wave of upcoming deejays and singers in the Caribbean.

VSR firmly believes in the spirit of collaboration and discovery of synergies as the primary method to fully realize the potential of their young charges.

“We are seeking to create a framework, support and mechanisms to provide a platform and creative outlet for budding artistes with amazing talent and drive,” Paul McAllister, one of the founding members of the VSR team said.

“We want to raise the bar in terms of the support provided to young artistes to better assist with navigating the challenging and complex nature of the entertainment and music industry.”

TeamVSR is the brainchild of founders and long-time “brothers from another mother”, Paul McAllister and Dennis Brown, the latter known for his artful directing skills. Brown recently directed the video for the Baby Cham-Bounty Killer-Dexta Daps collab, Slo Mo and continues to make significant contributions to the Jamaican film industry.

“Music production is multi-layered and very resource intensive, so as a growing indie label we have had to rely most heavily on our brains and collective skill sets to consistently put out quality work in this competitive industry, without breaking the bank. You just need to have that passion, will and drive to bridge the gap,” McAllister said.

VSR most recently released new videos for the Wildlife Pettodene single, Rifle Life, and Ah-Drianna’s ‘For the Night’ to rave reviews from music fans who loved Pettodene’s fiery lyrics and Ah-Drianna’s angelic vocals on a VSR R&B-infused beat/riddim.

VSR has also been working with many other young artistes like Bastan Quan, Jah Bloodz, Denz, D’Uptimis, Moses, joeL and others. ‘Gimmi’, another recent collaboration between VSR and established Dancehall artiste Savage Savo, has also been making the rounds on the music scene.

Another standout project to be released in the near future which VSR is extremely excited about, is one with Dancehall superstar, Silk Boss. VSR believes this single, a co-production with Ice Queen Records, will make a huge buzz both locally and internationally.

“Big Up Dovereign (“Dove”), African and the entire TeamVSR, inclusive of all our collaborating artistes. At the core of this movement is the belief that ‘Teamwork Makes The Dream Work’,” McAllister said.

Born and raised in Kingston, both Paul and Dennis knew at an early stage that media and music would be at the centre of their mission to empower and create opportunities for as many people as possible through creative collaboration and entrepreneurship.

Having garnered extensive experience in music production, media, marketing, content creation and business over a number of years, Paul and Dennis took the step in 2020 to start the VSR movement. Since then, and despite much adversity along the journey, VSR has had over 30 releases in the musical genres of Dancehall, Hip Hop and R&B, with many more on the way.

Currently, VSR supports the entire music production process in-house, from artistic conceptualisation to vocal recording, beat/riddim building, video shooting/editing, distribution, promotion/branding, graphic design etc.

“The goal of VSR is the creation and facilitation of true collaboration amongst creatives to foster individual and collective success. #TeamVSR is committed to action around purpose, efficient execution of strategy, and empowerment of the artist,” Brown said.
